We are pleased to announce that tomorrow the University of Cambridge will host the highly anticipated two-day conference, “Pursuit of Legal Harmony in a Turbulent Europe: A Tribute to Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston”. The event, co-sponsored by the University of Cambridge, the University of Westminster, and EU Law Live, will take place in the Winstanley Room at Trinity College.
The conference, organized by Professors Catherine Barnard, Adam Łazowski, and Daniel Sarmiento, will feature a distinguished lineup of scholars and legal professionals discussing critical themes in European law. Over two days, speakers will delve into topics such as the constitutional law of the European Union, fundamental rights, litigation in the EU and national courts, and the external relations of the Union. While the full list of speakers remains confidential until tomorrow morning, participants can look forward to thought-provoking discussions from leading voices in the field.
The first day’s panels will explore Eleanor Sharpston’s legacy as a European lawyer, EU constitutional law, and fundamental rights within the Union.
The program will begin at 10:30 AM BST with a welcome coffee. Highlights include presentations on Article 114 TFEU, the principle of solidarity between Member States, and the role of Advocates General in shaping EU citizenship.
The second day will focus on the internal market and the external relations of the EU.
Starting at 9:30 AM BST, topics will include the successes and challenges of the internal market, state aid regulation, and reflections on the UK’s legal order post-Brexit.
The conference will be livestreamed, allowing a global audience to participate. You can join us via the following links:
