Susan A. Gauger passed away peacefully on Nov. 1, 2024, in her home at the age of 83.
She was born to the late Charles and Grace (Robran) Baeurle on Nov. 30, 1940, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Susan was a resident of the Town of Egg Harbor for over 25 years, formerly of Cedarburg and Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin.
Susan graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1958 and DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1962. While at DePauw University she earned her bachelor’s degree in education (English and Home Economics) and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She met her husband Donald at DePauw, and the couple was united in married in 1964. Upon graduation, Susan worked for the Milwaukee Public Schools and later for the Mequon and Cedarburg schools as well as teaching sewing at Sears. She received a master’s degree in reading from Cardinal Stritch University and later another master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
Susan traveled throughout her life, visiting five continents where she whitewater rafted, hiked through jungles and visited archaeological sites. Some of her adventures included: visiting the pyramids in Egypt, walking on the Great Wall of China and partying with Iban natives in Borneo to name a few. Her greatest enjoyments were taking care of her many pets over the years as well as camping with her family, reading, cooking, casinos, quilting, gardening, sewing, painting rocks, making jewelry, marshmallow shooters, and feeding the birds and squirrels on her deck.
A special thank you to all the amazing caregivers from Unity Hospice, Christian Servants Home and Home Instead, who helped fulfilled her wishes to stay in her own home until her final day.
She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and her partner Michael Demuth; daughter-in-law Jackie Gauger, of Menomonee Falls; grand dogs Luna and Twinkle, and macaw Bubba.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 2023, her son Andrew in 2017, her parents, Charles and Grace Baeurle, and brother Chuck.
