National Pickleball Month Celebrated in Door County – Go Health Pro

As part of April being National Pickleball Month, the Door County Pickleball Club, along with the Door County YMCA and USA Pickleball, held two tournaments in the county.

The first pickleball tournament was at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA on April 10, when Guy Fortin finished first, Rob Pollman placed second and Jon Walker came in third.

The second tournament was at the Jackie and Steve Kane Program Center in Fish Creek on April 16, when Gerry Kadow won, DeAnn Walkner finished runner-up and Aaron Phillips took third.

Twenty-four players participated in the tournaments, while other players came to watch and cheer on their favorite players.

As part of sponsoring these tournaments with prizes and giveaways, USA Pickleball also donated three new indoor pickleball nets to the Door County YMCA.

Door County Pickleball Club President Jay Renstrom, who is also a district ambassador for USA Pickleball, said both of these tournaments were filled the day registration began.

“Although April is typically a transition month for the club as players begin to venture outdoors, weather permitting, we were extremely thankful to the Door County YMCA for providing such great facilities, not only for these tournaments, but throughout the entire indoor season,” he said.

Renstrom said the Door County Pickleball Club currently has approximately 550 members and has seen on average 20-30% growth each year.
