Sturgeon Bay’s boys soccer team played its final regular-season home game of the season Thursday when the Clippers shut out Providence Academy in Packerland Conference action, 6-0.
Sturgeon Bay, which led 3-0 at halftime, got two goals from Finn Stevenson and single scores from Kayden Klotz, Jackson Starr, Will Estes and Justin Gutierrez. Gutierrez, whose usual position is goalkeeper, played on offense and scored his first varsity goal ever.
The victory locked up another conference title for the Clippers, who remain undefeated in league play with one Packerland match remaining Oct. 17 at Algoma. Their remaining non-conference matches before the WIAA tournament include Oct. 11 at Hortonville and Oct. 18 at Seymour.
Clippers Seeded No. 2
Sturgeon Bay has received a No. 2 seed for the WIAA Division 4 boys soccer tournament, which begins later this month.
The Clippers will host a regional semifinal Oct. 24 against the winner of the Oct. 22 quarterfinal between No. 15-seeded New Holstein and No. 18-seeded Gresham/Bowler.
Should Sturgeon Bay win its semifinal, it would host the regional title game Oct. 26 against the winner of the Oct. 24 semifinal between No. 7-seeded Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah and No. 10-seeded St. Mary Catholic.
Door County’s other varsity boys soccer team, Gibraltar/Sevastopol, received a No. 6 seed in Division 4 and will host its regional semifinal Oct. 24 against No. 11-seeded Algoma.
The winner advances to the regional title game Oct. 26 to face the winner of the semifinal between No. 3-seeded Amherst and No. 14-seeded Saint Lawrence Seminary, with the highest remaining seed hosting the match.
The regional champions advance to the sectional semifinals Oct. 31 hosted by the highest remaining seeds. The semifinal winners advance to the sectional title game set for Nov. 2 at 1 pm at St. Mary Catholic, with the sectional champion advancing to the state semifinals Nov. 7 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
