Plans for a residential complex at the Alpine golf course will go to the Egg Harbor Village Board on Wednesday, April 9. The meeting starts at 8 am.
Last week, the village’s Plan Commission conditionally approved the plat based on getting an agreement down for the financing of a multi-use trail along the development, and delivery of probable trail costs.
The village board makes the final decision, and the April 9 agenda item would allow it to review, consider and possibly act upon the project. What the trustees will consider is the Plan Commission’s recommendation to conditionally approve the preliminary plat that property owner/developer Randy Abrahams has developed for 50 residential homes along Horseshoe Bay Road. The plan, discussed over several Plan Commission meetings, is to finance upgrades to the golf course by selling the lots.
Plan Commission members Chris Roedl and Kathy Navis cast the dissenting votes in the 3-2 decision during the April 3 meeting. Both indicated before the vote that they wanted to see financial evidence that the project was viable. Abrahams sold the Alpine’s waterfront properties earlier this year, and now the new owner has plans to raze the main lodge.
“I’m not trusting the money will be spent on the golf course, and I think the property owner will walk away,” Navis said.
During the open session that followed the commission’s vote, former Wisconsin Sen. Rob Cowles, who owns the farmland between the Alpine golf course and Horseshoe Bay Farms, said a group of people wants to purchase the property from Abrahams to keep it green space, with a multi-use trail traveling from the village to Horseshoe Bay Farms.
“Don’t blow this opportunity,” he said. “It’s not going to come again. I think you know that. There’s no more open space.”
