Girls Softball: Eagles Runner-up in Packerland  – Go Health Pro

Sevastopol’s softball team wasn’t able to overcome its five-run deficit Thursday when its suspended Packerland Conference contest resumed at Southern Door.

The Eagles repeated as the conference’s runner-up with a 10-6 victory over the Pioneers.

Sevastopol, which trailed 8-3 when the game was halted a week earlier midway through the fourth inning because of an approaching thunderstorm, had two solo home runs hit in the top of the sixth by Leah Schopf and Naomi Rikkola.

Rikkola ended up batting 3-4 for the game, with a double, homer and 2 RBI. The Pioneers’ Addison Schuaske had a two-run homer in the game’s opening inning, while Adi Sawyer batted 2-4 with a double.

Schopf started in the pitching circle a week earlier and ended up with the loss, having given up eight runs on three home runs in the first two innings. Schauske took over the pitching duties on Thursday.

Two of the Eagle’ home runs were hit by Alanah Kaye and the other by Madyson Counard. Kaye also recorded the pitching victory for Southern Door.

The Eagles, who ended Packerland play with a 7-1 league record, received a No. 4 seed in the WIAA Division 3 regional tournament and will host a semifinal game Tuesday against No. 5-seeded Chilton.

The Pioneers, who went 5-3 in the conference this season, received a No. 3 seed in the WIAA Division 4 regional tournament and will host a semifinal game Tuesday against No. 6-seeded Manitowoc Roncalli.

Algoma clinched the conference title after wrapping up Packerland play undefeated at 8-0 and is seeded No. 2 in the Division 4 regional.
