With Memorial Day approaching, let us not forget the price paid in years past for us to enjoy the American way of life that we do. I feel we are at war now, a cultural war. How much are we willing to sacrifice for the sake of future generations?
Half the country thinks the other is destroying this nation. I heard a prominent politician recently say we are a two-party system, patriots and traitors. Wow. Why would someone in a position of power say that? To what end? Accusations without remedy. The thrill of resistance without ideas. A campaign of fear-mongering. What is this achieving?
Do we really think the people we once held dear are intentionally out to destroy? Could it be that we are not getting unbiased news but propaganda? Inflammatory, insulting words are undermining the very essence of this nation. Again, I say to what end? Fact-find on your own in addition to what you are being fed. Challenge yourself. Then have a conversation, talk, debate, discuss.
The level of fear and hatred is alarming and can only lead to violence and destruction. How does that change anyone’s mind? In this form of government, aren’t we supposed to use the art of persuasion, we win people over? To fiercely debate, have conversations, come to a resolution and maybe even compromise? People don’t like to be bullied; they dig in, and things escalate. Pretty ominous, don’t you think? Even if your side wins, what is going to be left?
So ask yourself what it is you want to achieve and is the way you are going about it productive to that end? Do your part and take that difficult step and start a conversation. Challenge yourself. Let’s come together for the sake of future generations. Start healing relationships and this nation. A house divided will not stand.
God Bless America.
