Here we are in October, reflecting on what has been an incredible start to our Fall season. With consistent temperatures and plenty of sunshine, Door County has provided visitors and residents with opportunities to enjoy the best we have to offer. From beach days to outdoor dining and late-summer hikes, September felt like a gift, extending summer’s warmth while offering a glimpse of the beauty to come in the fall.
While summer may be our busiest time, autumn in Door County has its own unique magic. As the pace begins to slow during the week, the county transforms into a peaceful and colorful escape. The stunning palette of reds, oranges, and yellows will paint our landscape, making it a perfect time for residents and visitors alike to explore Door County.
While summer steals the spotlight, fall in Door County is my favorite. It’s a time when the crowds lessen, but the beauty and warmth of the peninsula are at their peak. Whether it’s a scenic drive out and about, a peaceful hike through any of our beautiful trails or vibrant forests, or a day spent at one of our orchards picking apples, fall offers a unique and intimate experience of the county’s natural wonders. And did I mention the incredible events that are sprinkled throughout the county, organized and executed brilliantly by our Community Business Association partners!
We must recognize that the magic of fall wouldn’t be possible without the continued hard work of our hospitality workers. Through all seasons, their dedication ensures that every visitor receives a warm welcome and exceptional experience, creating the foundation for lasting memories. As we transition to October, it’s not just a time for beautiful foliage and cooler temperatures; it’s also a moment for these workers to catch their breath and enjoy the slower pace. Their efforts don’t go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate all they do to make Door County a welcoming destination.
As we move from summer into fall, it’s important to also acknowledge the role that year-round tourism plays in keeping our local economy vibrant. The support of our visitors, even during the quieter months, sustains businesses and helps them thrive throughout the year. Fall provides an opportunity for guests to experience Door County in a new light – one that is rich in color, flavor and peacefulness.
For all of us who live here, fall is a time to enjoy the county’s beauty without the demands of the peak season. It’s a chance to reconnect with neighbors, explore the landscape anew, and enjoy the cultural and recreational opportunities that our local events and businesses continue to offer.
