1, Call for Papers: The European Yearbook of Constitutional Law. The European Yearbook of Constitutional Law (EYCL) is inviting scholars from around the world to submit proposals for its 2026 issue on “Social Rights and Constitutional Justice”. The deadline for proposals is 1 June 2025.
2. Advanced Summer Programme: Terrorism, Counter-Terrorism and the Rule of Law. From 25 – 29 August 2025, the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in cooperation with the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT), will host in The Hague the 15th anniversary edition of the Advanced Summer Programme on Terrorism, Counter-Terrorism and the Rule of Law. This programme offers an in-depth look at the challenges associated with understanding and addressing the root causes of extremism and terrorism and the difficulties when adopting and implementing counter-extremism and terrorism measures while ensuring respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law. Additionally, it provides the opportunity to get familiar with current and emerging threats in countering terrorism and (violent) extremism, such as online radicalisation, the use of AI, and disinformation. 3. Conference: Accountability for International Crimes Through Universal Jurisdiction in the EU Legal Space: The Way Ahead. This conference is taking place on 8 – 9 May 2025, at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria. It is organised within the research project UNIJUR, which is led by Professors Marina Mancini (Mediterranean University) and Raffaella Nigro (University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro) and is funded by the EU under the NextGeneration EU recovery instrument. 4. Unilateral Sanctions under International Law and in Global Politics Summer School. The Utrecht School of Law will host its Summer School on Unilateral Sanctions under International Law and in Global Politics, from 14 – 18 July 2025. The Summer School provides participants with an in-depth introduction to international law on unilateral sanctions, especially those imposed by the EU and US. The course is taught by experts based at Utrecht University as well as guest lecturers from Luxembourg, Belgium and Slovenia through lectures and interactive exercises. It is suitable for professionals and students with an interest in gaining international legal expertise on unilateral sanctions. Further information about the summer school can be found here.
5. Responsibility to Protect in Theory and Practice Conference. The Responsibility to Protect in Theory and Practice Series is a series of biennial international interdisciplinary conferences established by the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The series is devoted to the principle of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P/RtoP). The conferences are organized as a forum where international experts and researchers can participate in a discourse on issues related to R2P and its applicability in practice. This year the conference is co-organized with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. The year 2025 marks 20 years since the 2005 World Summit, when the international community adopted the principle of the responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing. The conference will reflect on the developments in the field with current and former Special Advisers on the Responsibility to Protect. The Opening remarks will be delivered by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, H. E. Tanja Fajon, who will also contribute to the Opening panel as a speaker. The confernece will take place at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 6 – 7 May 2025.
