Jessie Weber taught aspiring civil rights attorneys about deposition practice and preparation as a guest instructor for the Civil Rights Litigation course at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. – Go Health Pro

Jessie Weber, managing partner at Brown, Goldstein & Levy, shared important tools needed to prepare for and take depositions with law students as a guest instructor for the Civil Rights Litigation course at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law on April 2.

The Civil Rights Litigation Course explores the enforcement of civil rights laws in federal court by individual plaintiffs and examines different models of civil rights lawyering and the role that litigation can play to advance social justice movements.

As a seasoned attorney focused on civil rights, Jessie was honored to share her experience and help equip the next generation of aspiring civil rights litigators. She spoke with the class about how depositions can help them prepare for motions practice and trial, understand the facts of the case, and gain the evidence they need to prove their case. Jessie also gave advice and best practices on depositions in civil rights cases.

In her civil rights practice, Jessie focuses on disability and LGBTQ rights, employment law, fair housing, and appellate litigation. Jessie’s many successes include securing an injunction requiring the Maryland Board of Elections to make absentee voting accessible to voters with print disabilities, winning an arbitration award of more than $250,000 on behalf of an African-American former Hooters server who was fired from her job because of Hooters’ racially discriminatory image policy, and obtaining a court-ordered settlement agreement with the Social Security Administration requiring SSA to make its visitor intake processing kiosks at its field offices nationwide fully accessible and usable to blind visitors. In 2022 and 2021, Jessie was named to Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Plaintiff Employment and Civil Rights Lawyers. Learn more about Jessie here.
