We are seeking an experienced, full-time Safety Professional.
Vigilant safety professionals are responsible for providing proactive advice related to workplace safety for our member employers located in Washington. The individual in this role acts as a safety advocate with a goal of preventing workplace injuries, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of safety with our members.

Vigilant has offices in Tigard, Oregon and Everett, Washington, but our employees primarily work from home. While this is a work-from-home position, Vigilant Safety Professionals spend approximately 30%-50% of their time traveling to visit members, including overnight travel, dependent upon member needs. To be considered for this role, you must be located in Northern Washington (ideally north of Seattle) and be able to travel throughout the state of Washington as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Vigilant’s vision and values.
- Regularly engage with member companies through site visits, virtual consultations, and ongoing communication to cultivate and maintain goodwill and positive relationships.
- Serve as a valued partner rather than simply an enforcer of rules, taking time to understand each member’s business operations and safety culture.
- Approach safety conversations with empathy and respect, recognizing that lasting change comes through engagement and education rather than dictation.
- Foster open communication channels that encourage member companies to proactively seek guidance on safety matters before issues arise.
- Work collaboratively with member companies to develop simple, customized safety solutions that address their unique operational challenges and industry-specific risks.
- Review safety programs and provide guidance on compliance with relevant safety standards, regulations, and legislation.
- Conduct onsite workplace inspections to prevent injuries/illnesses and to meet compliance standards.
- Conduct safety audits and provide follow-up action plans and analysis as needed.
- Review accident statistics to determine cause and identify loss sources and trends.
- Navigate regulatory issues in a way that translates safety into an issue of positive corporate culture and individual behavior.
- Investigate workplace incidents as needed, to determine root causes and guide members in ways to implement preventative measures.
- Consult and guide members through the safety citation and appeals process.
- Develop and deliver effective safety training programs for employees of member companies.
- Seek opportunities to enhance upper management commitment and to reinforce accountability standards.
- Remain current on injury trends, changes in the standards and available resources.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 5 years of previous experience in occupational safety management required.
- Minimum of 3 years working in the manufacturing or construction industries is preferred.
- Professional safety certification (CSP, CHST, OHST or similar) preferred.
- Additional experience in industrial hygiene and/or ergonomics a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to convey clear and concise safety information.
- Bilingual candidates (English and Spanish) highly desirable.
- Knowledge of applicable technical resources for researching information required to perform job.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to create cooperative working relationships with internal staff, external members, and stakeholders. This collaborative approach is central to our organization’s values and essential to the success of this position.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to analyze complex safety issues, research, strategize, and formulate solutions.
- Strong organizational skills. Must be able to proactively manage multiple tasks/priorities simultaneously to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work well independently and under pressure with frequent interruptions, while maintaining high level of accuracy and attention to detail and responsiveness.
- Strong computer skills, including ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel. Must be able to meet or exceed service expectations.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

- Our Safety Professionals are expected to be available to answer member questions during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), unless other arrangements are made.
