1. Ghandhi Research Seminar Series 2024- 2025. Global Law at Reading (GLAR) is Reading’s research hub for public international law, EU law and human rights law, and it has a proud international reputation for research excellence in these areas. The Ghandhi Research Seminar Series was launched in 2015, named in honour of Professor Sandy Ghandhi, who taught at the School of Law from 1978 to 2013 and remains an emeritus professor at Reading. 2. Call for Submissions: The American Society of International Law Interest Group on International Legal Theory. The American Society of International Law (ASIL) Interest Group on International Legal Theory has issued its annual call for submissions for its International Refugee Law Student Writing Prize. More details about the award criteria and submission process are available in the attached call for submissions. The winner will be recognized at the ASIL Annual Meeting in April 2025, as well as receiving a free one-year ASIL student membership, free admission to the ASIL Annual Meeting, assistance with travel expenses, and a credit to purchase books from Oxford University Press.

2. Call for Submissions: Workshop on Gender and Sexuality in International Criminal Law and Refugee Law. International criminal law (ICL) and International Refugee Law (IRL) serve distinct purposes and operate through separate mechanisms. ICL focuses on accountability, prosecuting individuals for serious crimes like genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity through courts and tribunals, aiming to deliver justice and deter future atrocities. Refugee law, in contrast, is humanitarian, focused on protecting individuals fleeing persecution by granting access to asylum. Despite these differences, the two fields share some challenges, can impact one another, and often interact. In the Workshop on Gender and Sexuality in International Criminal Law and Refugee Law, which will be held on 11 April 2025 at Tilburg University, the organisers seek contributions exploring gender and sexuality specifically, as underrepresented themes, to generate interdisciplinary insights and strengthen collaboration between the wider fields of ICL and IRL. 1. TwoLaw – Lecture Series on the Laws of War. On 28 November 2024, from 6-7 pm CET, Claire Vergerio (independent scholar) will give the next lecture of the TwoLaw – Lecture Series on the Laws of war. The topic of the lecture is “War, States, and International Order: Alberico Gentili and the Foundational Myth of the Laws of War” and focuses on the historical development of the prerogative of sovereign states to wage war. Vergerio argues that this arrangement was not derived from the ideas of Alberico Gentili and that this story was invented by a group of prominent international lawyers. 2. Call for Papers: Guidance, Expertise, Theoretical Authority and the Legitimacy of International Governance. This workshop will bring together international lawyers, philosophers, political scientists and scholars in related fields interested in exploring the role that epistemic authority and expertise play in today’s global governance. Abstracts are invited for a 2 day workshop to take place at Maynooth University, Ireland on 20 – 21 March 2025 to be sent to theoreticalauthority (at) gmail(,)com by 5 January 2025. Papers may address questions at a general level, or through a focus on one or more specific regimes, organisations, courts or tribunals. 1. Call for Papers: Ljubljana Sanctions Conference. The Ljubljana Sanctions Conference will be held on 25 – 26 September 2025 at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. The event aims to encourage interdisciplinary discussions by bringing together practitioners, scholars, and experts to explore various aspects of sanctions in international and European law, politics, and economics. The organisers invite abstracts covering a wide range of topics, including the evolution of international sanctions practices, theoretical and practical perspectives on sanctions, challenges in national sanctions implementation, sanctions and human rights, legal issues surrounding the confiscation of state and private property, sanctions as geo-political and geo-economic tools, links between sanctions and investment law, sanctions and humanitarian action, critical views on sanctioning policies and double standards, and TWAIL perspectives on sanctions. 1. Name for Submissions: Symposium on Enhancing Compliance with Human Rights from Under in Occasions of Disaster. The Editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Regulation (Brill Nijhoff) are inviting submissions for his or her upcoming (hybrid) symposium on “Enhancing Compliance with Human Rights from Under in Occasions of Disaster” to be held on Friday 13 December 2024 on the College of Regulation of Hasselt College, Belgium. This symposium seeks to discover how native communities, grassroots actions, civil society organizations and most of the people at giant can successfully promote and shield human rights when conventional top-down mechanisms falter in occasions of disaster (local weather change, migration flows or political upheavals, and many others). 2. Worldwide Regulation Colloquium on the Geneva Graduate Institute: Autumn 2024 Programme.
